Twitter#

Twitter is a fantastic social media platform for business. You can promote your company and hashtag# then when you do that every tweet you post is available for everyone to see.
When you use the hashtag it must be relevant to your company if you’re trying to sell something.
This gets your brand out there and noticed, this has the potential to be a hazard though because it opens up the opportunity for cyberbullying, not for business tweets so much but for personal tweets.
Twitter uses “tweets” and is a short message service (SMS) so you are limited to 140 Characters, that is still enough to describe how Australia crumbled to the Pomms in the 4th Test this year all out for 60 and a 139 word tweet went global.
Twitter was formed in March 2006 and the First Tweet was sent July that same year.
The Company was formed by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Noah Glass and Biz Stone.
Japan holds the record for the most tweets sent in a second at 143, 199 in 2013.
Always be careful what you tweet as there have been cases of people losing their jobs for what they have put on twitter or cyberbullying.
Follow these excellent twitter pages for your entertainment.

I chose to do my online collaboration report on the social media website ‘Twitter’. Here is a summary of my findings.

Twitter is a free social media website designed for online communication between people all over the world. Twitter was created and launched in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass and now in 2015 has approximately 315 million users.

Each individual Twitter user has their own profile page and specific username. The username, which can sometimes be referred to as a handle, is used to identify the user on twitter. A status update or post made on Twitter is called a tweet.

When using Twitter you can subscribe to another Twitter account, this is called ‘following’. Once you follow another user you will see their tweets. Anyone on Twitter can follow or un-follow another user at any time with the exception of blocked accounts.

If you block a Twitter user they will be unable to follow you or add you to their Twitter list. Blocking is a necessary feature as Twitter is a social media website and the disadvantage of social media is the users can be exposed to cyber-bullying.

My Facebook Report

In my report I spoke about Facebook. the subheadings I wrote about were:
  • Histery of Facebook
  • statistics
  • Main points
  • advantages
  • Disadvantages
  • Examples and links
  • How to get started
  • costs
  • potential Dangers
  • Suited for Businesses
  • Suited for personal life
The histery of Facebook is just amazing, from being started by a undergrad Harvard psycology student, named Mark Zuckerberg. The man was in love with computer programming, he would program and code in his free time at home. When Mark was studying at Harvard he created a site called Facemash. This site was purely to rate other students that were studying at the university on their appearance. Within 24 hours 1200 accounts were created, and within the next few days other universities joined in. Later on Mark changed the name to The Facebook. In 2004 he though that the name was too long so he bought the URL address of someone called Facebook.

There are so many advantages that Facebook provides for people. Some advantages are; you can become more social if you are anti-social when not behind the screen, you can play games on Facebook to relax from stress, you can talk to multiple friends at once without meeting them in real life and you can share your interests with your friends and family.

There are sadly some disadvantages to Facebook, such as cyberbullying. The google dictionary definition of cyberbullying is:
"The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature".

Cyberbullying happens to nearly everyone on the net. People can get cyberbullied for many reasons such as; showing to much of their body in a image or video, providing the wrong information within their status, that other people may not agree on, etc. Cyberbullying doesn’t usually stop at the screen, in some cases it may carry on into real life and can escalate to so much more.

Facebook is well known for cyberbullying because it is such a popular site. There are many way to reduce cyberbullying. If it is happening to you, you can; block/delete the person, don’t go on Facebook, tell someone and set your privacy setting to friends only.

Here is an example of the format of Facebook and examples of people sharing their interests, through videos, statuses and pictures.

Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg launched the first version on the 4th of February 2004 and it was actually called "thefacebook".
Initially it was only available for Harvard University students but was quickly opened up to include other US universities.
There were only 8 features:
1. User accounts (with real names required), restricted to @harvard.edu email addresses
2. Friends, including friend requests 3. Invitations (no contact importer; you had to enter each email address individually)
4. Profiles, with a single photo for each user
5. Ability to list user metadata like gender, birthday, dorm, phone number, favourite music, favourite books, "about me," courses (structured)
6.Search by name, class year, courses, other metadata
7.Some privacy restrictions to limit who could see your profile (friends only, only people in my class year)
8. A feature to visualise a user’s friend graph, which was later cut
Your task is to find out two other facts about Facebook for me and "email!"me your answers rather than posting a comment.
1. Why was the colour blue chosen?
2. On what date was facebook opened up to the general public?

The first blogger ever was..........................?

Justin Hall way, way back in 1994!
His blog name was 'Justin Links from the Underground' He started to write this in 1994.It was a guide about world wide web but later he started to write about personal topics. His web address was 'www.links.net' New york times has given the recognition Justin Halls as the father of personal blogging.

The most important part is that when Justin Halls started to write blog, at that time the word 'blog' was not born. In 1997 'web log' got popularity , later in 1999 the word was shortened to 'blog'.

The very first email ever sent!

The first email was sent by Ray Tomlinson to himself in 1971. "The test messages were entirely forgettable. . . . Most likely the first message was QWERTYIOP or something similar," he said.
